Don't You Know There's a War On?

The Indiana Home Front during World War II

The life and times of Hoosier citizens during the trying days of World War II are explored in this exhibition, which features photographs and other materials from the Society and the Indiana State Library. The exhibit focuses on how the war not only disrupted the lives of those who served in the military, but also changed those at home who tended "Victory Gardens," rationed gas and food, produced war supplies, and bought war bonds. "Don't you know there's a war on?" was an oft-repeated rhetorical question during the time. Americans knew the answer, and people in Indiana were no exception
